Database
Quick search
The Quick search mode is the easiest way to start a search. Because the search is performed in all fields, the method produces often a long list of results. If you start your search from there, you will be able to refine your search by adding criteria directly in the result page.
A search with more than one word will give as result only the sources that match all the criteria. However, the words do not have to be in the same field.
Phrases, or expressions, can be given between quotes: for example "benedictus dominus".
It is possible to shorten a word using a star * as a wild-card for replacing an undetermined number of characters. For example folg* matches sources with, folg, folge, folgt, folgen, folgte, folgten, folgend, folgende etc..
One single letter can also be replaced using an interrogation mark ?. For example M?nuet matches sources with Menuett but also with Minuett.
A the different options can be combined. For example "Dixit Dominus" I-Bc matches all the sources of the Museo della Musica (Bologna) Ave Maria.
Most common non ASCII characters can be search as is (i.e., in Unicode) or transliterated. For example, searching with Frantisek or František will indifferently return all the results with František. |
Sources
This entry point enables you to browse the list of sources inventoried so far with the possibility to add or remove navigation criteria at any time. The method is particularly convenient for discovering the database content by leaving yourself guided by the sources you will find, adding precise filters whenever you want and according to your interest.
Advanced search
The advanced search enables you to quickly find results when you already have an idea of what you are searching in the database. For now, the searching capabilities are the same as the ones available in the navigation within the sources. At any point, you can refine your search by adding criteria. Eventually, we will add here other searching functionalities, such as search by music incipits or by MARC21 fields.
For example, the advanced search can be used to find all the autograph sources of a composer: by selecting Autograph of and Mozart, you will find all the autograph sources from him inventoried in our database. |
Indexes (authority files)
Indexes, or authority files, provide you with a wide range of additional information about the normalised data-sets linked to the sources. The content of the authority files will be extended eventually. For now, it is possible to search in sub-fields of the authority files, such as name or language variants.
